When beginning the Stone Dirge design I had to consider they are made of stone, yet needed aerodynamics. It would also have influence from traditional seafaring vessels.
Stone Dirges are often steered by a member of the Wheel. These Wielders of the wheel can control the major elements, including the winds. The wheel member uses these powers to steer and give momentum to the ship.
This is a sample of the ballista crossbow found on a Stone Dirge. They fire metal and Fire stone rounds. Firestone is a stone found in the Burning Lands that constantly burns. Because of fire damage; all clothing and 'like materials' are fire proofed.
This is a rough of the catapult found on a Stone Dirge. They often fire Firestone rounds. They are handled by the Knights of the Flame who are immune to fire damage.
These images are another part of my portfolio, but reinforce the adaptability of the Stone Dirge. They can be steered directly over lava flows. They are not slowed, because they never actually touch the lava, water or earth which they can travel.
In the Burning Lands ships of wood catch fire, so the Flamasters began making ships of stone. This is not normal stone it is Skystone. The ships called 'Stone Dirges' are magically enchanted to allow floating, both in buoyancy and in hovering. These ships are sailed on the sea and on land hovering above the surface. In combat they can ram opponents and are often equipped to fire fiery missiles.
